If at First you Don’t Succeed

If at first you don’t succeed…try a million times til you get it right!

Yeup, that was me and Charlie when it came to learning how to screen print. We got our supplies, and were so excited to start! We read the directions, watched all kinds of tutorials on Youtube and online..What could go wrong right?

So up until a few days ago, I know nothing about screen printing. I knew how to set up files, but not the actual production work. For those of you that are newbies like me turns out you have to create a screen of your artwork onto a mesh board using emulsion and some good ol’ UV rays (whether it be from the sun or from a light source). You apply this emulsion to the screen on both sides and allow it to dry (usually overnight) without being exposed to light. The next day, you can burn your artwork onto your screen, wash it out, and voila! You’ve got yourself a screen board ready for some ink. There are tons of resources online if you ever want to see what the process is like.

Can’t be that hard right?

OMG. 1st time – fail. 2nd time – fail. 3rd time – fail. 4th time – fail, but closer! 5th time – YAY! We finally got one! After half the tub of emulsion, lots of emulsion remover, patience, and 5 attempts we’ve got ourselves a winner!! You’ve heard the saying, “5th time’s a charm” right?! 🙂

Here she is my friends, in all her orange glory. I don’t know about you, but I’m doing a happy dance!
